Cr. Mel Congerton (Chair)

Independent member (Skillset: Governance, planning, Diplomacy, People Skills)

Mel Congerton has extensive commercial and corporate governance knowledge gained over the past 40 years. He has previously worked in the roles of CEO and General Manager positions for various organisations within Western Australia. Mel has owned and operated several business entities and is currently the Managing Director of Ognoc Pty Ltd, residential land developers. Mel is currently appointed to multiple senior community leadership positions in the NFP sector. Mel has served as Chair of the Local Government Advisory Board (State Government Board) for the past 9 years, Vice Chair of the Ballajura Community College School Board and held the position of Deputy Mayor and Councillor (City of Swan). Mel has received an Eminent and Long Service awards by the Western Australian Local Government Association and made an Honorary Freeman by the City of Swan. Mel has a Diploma of Marketing and is a serving Justice of the Peace.

Dr Tara Smith

Independent member (Skillset: Oversight of the quality of higher education, Higher Education standards, Planning, Governance)

Dr Tara Smith has depth and breadth of knowledge and experience within higher education, having held multiple roles at Edith Cowan University and Murdoch University. Tara currently holds a leadership role in the School of Business and Governance as the Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching (ADLT). As ADLT, Tara ensures that curriculum and teaching and learning within the School of Business and Governance (B&G) meet Higher Education Standards (HES) and the Australian Quality Framework (AQF). She has oversight of the quality of higher education through the University governance committees. The development of the business plans derived from academic and corporate planning, in which curriculum and teaching practices are reviewed, adapted to ensure a continuous cycle of quality improvement. She has an emerging research profile and has received several teaching awards. Experience is supported by a PhD in Online Learning, MBA, Grad Dip (Education), BSc.

Dr Shane Lavagna – Slater

Independent member (Skillset: Oversight of the quality of higher education, Higher Education standards, Planning, Governance)

Dr Shane Lavagna – Slater has academic as well as financial services industry experience in both Australia and throughout Africa. Within academics he has worked at The University of Western Australia, Edith Cowan University, Southern Cross University, The University of Witwatersrand Business School as well as private education providers. Experience within financial services include banking, insurance and retail credit provision in South African and across Africa. Shane has held many senior roles across academia and financial services including Head of Department for the Accounting and Finance faculty at Milpark Business School, CEO of GoLoans and New Business Manager at Izwe Loans. These required financial monitoring, strategic and operational planning and governance. Dr Lavagna – Slater has a PhD in Business Management , M.Com Financial Management , B.Com (Hons) Financial Management , BCom Investment Management and a Certificate in Strategic Leadership in Inclusive Finance from Harvard Business School .

Mrs Heidi Reid

IIBT Executive Director (Skillset: Interest of Board of Directors; HR; English; International Student Market, Pathways; Network of professionals on East coast)

Mrs Heidi Reid has a Masters of TESOL, Grad Dip Ed (Primary), MBA (Human Resource Management)

Educated in Canada and Australia, Ms Reid Heidi worked in International education for more than 20 years and sits on the Advisory Council for NEAS (Quality Assurance for English Language Schools) and was previously on their Board of Directors. Ms Reid is the Convenor for the International Education Association of Australia and is an advocate and spokesperson for Pathways and international education.

Ms Reid is a Justice of the Peace for NSW. She holds a Diploma of Quality auditing and has extensive experience in Vocational Education and ELICOS. She is a member of AICD.

Ms Kellen(YongJing) Chen

 IIBT Board of Directors (Marketing, International students, Agent management)

Ms Kellen Chen has a Masters of Business of Administration (Accounting) .

After achieving her MBA from the Australian Catholic University, Kellen began working in recruitment and admissions for International students. She worked as an educational agent from 1999 – 2005 in Taiwan and Mainland China before returning to Australia to work in private educational institutions.

As a part – owner of Times Education, Kellen knows the importance of a quality product in education. Ms Chen specialised in marketing and student recruitment and works with an extensive network of agents.

Ms Chen is a registered Justice of the Peace for New South Wales

Dr Marita Naude

IIBT CEO (Skillset: Oversight of the quality of higher education; Higher Education standards; VET, Governance, Compliance; Finance; International Student Market; Pathways; Network of Professionals)

Dr Marita Naude has a depth and breadth of knowledge and experience and has previously worked at Curtin University, Southern Cross University, Murdoch University, The University of Notre Dame, Toulouse Business School (France) and the Medical University of South Africa. She has also worked for private education providers in Australia.

Marita has previously been appointed to multiple senior leadership and management positions at different universities a nd private education providers. She is a well – published academic with publications including, textbooks, academic journals and conference papers and has delivered conference presentations at international and national conferences. She is well versed in cur riculum and course development to ensure industry ready students. In addition, she has won several teaching and learning, and learning innovation awards throughout her career.

Dr Naude has a PhD in Transformational Leadership (Change), M.Ed, B.Sc (Hons), Diploma Advanced Nursing, Cert IV T&A.

Dr Eva Dobozy

 Independent member

Associate Professor Eva Dobozy is the Director, Quality Assurance for the Faculty of Business and Law, Curtin University. She oversees, manages and provides advice and direction on all matters quality assurance and improvement. She is a member of the Faculty Courses Committee, Learning and Teaching Committee and Chairperson of the Sustainability in Business Council. She was the deputy and acting dean, Learning and Teaching from July 2016 to December 2017.

Eva is an established researcher with numerous grants, publications and conference presentations, including keynote addresses. She has served as Academic Staff in the School of Education at Curtin University, the School of Education at Edith Cowan University, visiting Professor and Research Scholar at Swiss University of Teacher Education (2003 – 2004). Her research expertise focuses on Digital Learning and Learning Theory.

She is vice – president of the WA Institute of Educational Research and member of the Executive Board of the International Council for Educational Media.

She has a Ph D from Murdoch University.
